Part 35: Proper Postgame Introductions

Part 34: Proper Postgame Introductions

The Cavern of True Red

Welcome back to the postgame. We're sneaking behind dinosaurs. We'll go into that in a moment.

So long as we get to this ca$h, it doesn't matter if it sees us and starts hunting us down. Hope you like one way passages!

Hah, you think some dust is going to stop- oh geez, that cell is fast! What the hell is it doing?

Let's not find out~

If you see a random warp, just assume it takes you back to the start. The fact I'm avoiding them should be evidence enough.

The hell? How do they keep going for us even when they can't see us?!

Hnnnngggnnghgh, Liana, I'm trying to sneak around, but I'm dummy thicc and the clank of my armour keeps alerting the monsters!

no

...Really? You really just went there?

Frankly I'm annoyed it took me so long to come up with it. Gotta date my LPs somehow.

Someone hates trees.

Seems Simone is rubbing off on me.

Alright, something based on the Sickwood, surely it's better than that. Well, considering we can one shot it before it can even attack, I think it's also pretty meh, but not as bad. Getting blindsided by this thing is annoying since you'll be with a pretty neutered team member, but it's easy enough to fix. And it can heal up the more deadly enemies, but not by much. It's always appreciated to encounter, since it's definitely the easiest enemy in this stratum.

These are replaced with Sickwoods (Gasser Trees) in EOU, and traded Cure for a very deadly poison. You'll notice that EOU's postgame difficulty tends to come from the random encounters being tuned the fuck up and becoming even more dangerous than in EO1.

Oh hey, it's still a support enemy. Only in the form of a random encounter this time, so it can actually do things. Still not super threatening compared to the other stuff you can find in here.

Now then, onto the main attraction. Teralichs are pretty tricky FOEs due to their movement pattern and sight line. Firstly, they can see in a 3x5 block no matter what's in front of them, even walls. Secondly, they move three steps forward and then one step back, making it a real pain to follow them without aggroing them. Thankfully they only really appear on this floor in this capacity, so if you kill a couple of them, they're no problem. It would suck if in a remade version of this game they appeared quite a few more times. Hahaha.

Oh darn, we found out~

It's almost instantaneous. Hardcore!

Now at 240% power with a 12% stun chance, but considering Caduceus goes before this attack, it doesn't matter too often.

The secret passages are in the shape of digital 2s or 5s, so any strange lumps are one way paths.

Conditional: Gem Plume (Kill with non-Fire damage). 30% chance. Sells for 1950en.
1 required for Mobius Alb (Ultimate Alchemist Armor, DEF+34, TEC+10, TP+20, must be restocked)

Lying in wait in these passages are these things, nothing too crazy, they're basically a weaker Shellord, but they're still dangerous in their own right. You get one free turn while they summon Monocytes and then when they get below half, they start adding in their Fire attack. Easy enough with Antifire, but their physical attacks hurt, along with their pals. Keeping one Monocyte at full health is the best way to deal with them, otherwise Petrify gets added into the mix. Also, thankfully, Red Ore are dropped by other monsters, so don't feel like you need to kill a bunch of these fuckers. No, those FOEs come later... this update.

Songbirds traded their fire damage for volt damage in EOU. That doesn't sound very impressive until I tell you that it's basically guaranteed to paralyze whoever it hits.

For the record, ailments aren't tied to elements. So what this really does is just throw off people who bothered to remember how they worked in EO1. Anyways, they're pretty annoying in this game since they have a helper who can petrify you. Hope the Monocytes don't hit your Protector, because you're in for a rough time, otherwise!

Ah, touché.

Alright, that's one way of dealing with the summons.

Ah, touché.

You'll pay for that! Frozen Sabr- ah, touché.

Alright, this has gone on long enough, everyone behind me!

Okay, bored now, hyah!

Hey don't just leave your post!

Ahhhhh, my cape's on fire!

While I slightly underestimated its health, we got through no problem, but I don't really have much reason to fight one again.

It's just like EO2!

And then the rest of this area. We can expect something similar on the other side. Guess where the warp spits us out?

1 Gem Plume is required for Mobius Alb (Ultimate Alchemist Armor, DEF+34, TEC+10, TP+20, must be restocked), sells for 89,000en

Alright, another trash armour to throw onto the pile, not only is it weaker than the Rune Tunic by 2 DEF, it's also 84,000en more expensive. Is that worth 10 TEC and 5 TP? Honestly, you'll get more use out of the Alchemist Glove than this.

1 Holed Limb is required for Syrinx (Troubadour Accessory, TP+70), sells for 35,000en

At least we've unlocked all the instruments. Trash, all of them.

What were even the point of these accessories? Troubadours are like the least TP hungry class in the game!

The Cavern of True Red

Sucks to miss out on all this exp, but like hell am I fighting these crabs again.

How about two more dino corridors?

1 required for Nectar III (Medicine, revives the target to 1200HP, must be restocked)
1 required for Somaprime (Medicine, heals the entire party by 1200HP, must be restocked)

Funnily enough I don't believe these two gathering points are worth being forced back to the start of the floor. Call me crazy.

You don't say.

Well this worked well~

I'm doing a thing, shut up!

We'll have to go back to town, but because Teralichs move so weirdly, it's difficult walking down one of their paths without running into one, so walking down slightly gives you sight on where they are, or indeed, where they're not. And since it's mirrored, knowing where one is tells you where the other is, very important.

And on the way back, Salve now heals 252HP, which should sort us for a little bit and let us tackle Caduceus. We will eventually max it out. Taranis reduces Volt damage by 45% and increases the enemy's resistance by 133%. Imagine how this will combine with Thor, hohoho.

Anyway, now that we have one Teralich by itself, let's kill it! After all, we can't let these things boss us around and we need to kill them to reach one way passages at the end of their corridor anyway. Though I GUESS you could do it without aggroing them. Maybe.

I imagine we'll probably need this.

Lady, you read my mind.

1 required for Ruby Gage (Ronin Gloves, DEF+10, AGI+9, TEC+7, must be restocked)

Conditional: None

Befitting of a postgame enemy, Teralichs are super scary, having the highest STR of any regular enemy. Thankfully, while they'll happily tear you apart with any defense, they're also manageable, only killing one person at a time, with either standard, or high damage.

In EOU, these things can hit the entire party (which also inflicts extremely likely fear) and also have a high-chance single-target instant death. I hate fighting them. Thankfully, they got shifted all the way down to B29F.

They may seem scary, but the fact that they're still just limited to killing a single target just barely makes them barely stronger than a random encounter in this case. Come on, pick up some AOEs or something, sheesh!

My masters are not a snack!

Pretty impressive damage considering it's through Immunize, F.Guard AND Sapping.

At least their damage is kind of high? But the fact that an FOE is limited to single target attacks in the post-game makes it vastly easier to keep the momentum up against one.

Don't forget about my shield, boy!

I'll get left behind at this rate... need to up my gains.

Definitely scary enough, though we'll see how we do without Immunize next time.

Ah, the stairs... behind a warp~

You sure one of you can't longjump that?

Going the other way leads to a Songbird that you have to fight. Ehhh, I'm alright.

1 Ruby Skull is required for Ruby Mail (Ultimate Ronin Armor, DEF+42, STR+8, HP+22, must be restocked), sells for 99,000en

Alright, this is a bit more tempting, since it makes your Ronin die less quickly and makes them stronger. For an extra 94,000en, you get, compared to Blood Mail, 8 STR and 22 HP, since the DEF is the same. Still, add in the Blood Gage and the Moss Ring and that's a lot of STR being piled on to an already deadly class. I probably won't go that far, but it is an idea.

Do it. Pile the STR as high as you can.

Piling on STR is not particularly impressive in this game (unless the class in question is the Medic) since each point of STR is equal to a point of weapon ATK. And considering you can pile on the latter more easily, which also benefits from weapon mastery skills far more than STR does from ATK Up, you're better off upgrading a weapon or something instead in this game.

Man, they seem a little crabby.

I adore you, but never do that again.

You might be surprised to hear, but I really hate puns.

Since we need the other drop, might as well kill the other one. You should kill this one anyway, since this is the trip I want to clear the floor with.

You're welcome.

Hey, if you keep doing my job, then I can keep smacking fools!

Another Songbird, whatever, but we're not heading back to town.

As you might've guessed, all the warps we've seen bring us back here. It's a bit of a pain if you haven't killed the Shellord yet.

Almost putting my voice to shame~

While Hexers fall behind due to their stats, that doesn't mean they're useless.

Mmm, that's a spicy 30% chance of a pre-emptive. I was down on this skill in the writeup, but that's because you only get it once you've gotten everything else, you then appreciate it for a bit, and then the game's over. Not too useful, but it makes this place less of a headache sometimes.

EheheheheEHEHEHEHEHEHE!

Between this and Liana cackling whenever she finds a secret, it's been a long day.

The way forward...?

According to my masters stationed at the usual destination, no one that's gone through here comes out there.

The wonders of squirrel communication and relay.

You might think this floor might be over, but here's a long corridor to stretch it out juuuuuust a little bit more.

That bird is loud...

Just ignore it. Anything?

Ugh, no.

Here's a room with 4 teleporters. None of them are the way forward. How would you know this? By trying it four times of course and going through the entire floor to get back here. Postgame!

Welcome to trial and error hell. It's basically the standard teleporter maze, only instead of getting lost due to no directions, you get told to fuck off and try again.

We'll get to this in just a moment.

Eeny meeny-

It's this one, christ.

Now here's another four teleporters. Which one is the right one? Well, it's the one I'm standing in front of, but...

Ahah! Which one is the right one? Guess incorrectly and it's to the start of the floor with thee! Okay, it's the one I'm looking at again...

May mercy be had on you if you're playing this game blind. And guess who went through this entire game without a guide? Let me just say yeah, this is exactly as unfun as it looks, and it's even worse when you don't even know which damn teleporter is the way forward. And this isn't even as bad as it gets. Doesn't help that your mapping tools are really limited in EO1!

Alright, let's never do that again.

Well there weren't any shortcuts, so we'll have to do that every time~

FUCK!

So here's two sneaky things, going to the end of the long corridor is a one way that leads to a teleport just before the stairs! And yes, since there's no shortcuts, we'll have to go through this floor each and every time we go through this stratum. I, personally, am looking forward to doing this. Just kidding, it's tedious bullshit.

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh. So glad I stopped playing EO1 before this shit happened.

One last nasty surprise. You have to do the entire floor all over again each time you want to attempt the later floors! The only shortcut you have access to is the knowledge you've gained.

Of all the damn things to get stuck behind. Hey, asshole, get outta the road!

Hey, don't swing your shield, I'm walkin' 'ere!

You're right, let's just go around this damn thing.

You sure? My masters are exploring this massive room and there's something weird about the floor.

Hmm, looks normal to me.

I mean, I don't want to look too closely, since sometimes I think it looks back~

Look, I'm sure everything will be-

fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii-oof!

Bloody hell, here we go again. Hup!

Well I hope you enjoyed that little warm up, cause the real 6th stratum starts here. B27F is full of invisible pits and B28F is full of spiky hell. Tackling these two floor is gonna take a fucking time, so let's get started.

Angry bird.

Conditional: Ebon Plume (Kill with non-Stab damage). 30% chance. Sells for 7000en.
10 required for Zamiel Bow (Bow, ATK+202, AGI+15)

Ah, goody goody. Macabres are little shits, since they always blindside you and fucking murder someone. As you can see from their skills, they were SUPPOSED to use that turn to buff their ATK, but their condition of Turn <=0 leads to the default table, instead of table 4 where Evil Cry is. Oh, EO1. Anyway, once you've somewhat recovered, they're not too bad, they take a fair bit of damage and only use Bad Beak every other turn. Until they get below 30% health and then they start spamming it. A nasty initial encounter, but you can avoid them entirely if you use online maps for B27F and there's not that many of them down here anyway. Unlike a certain other game. This is actually a problem, since I need to unlock that damn bow, even though I've already got the best bow. And there's less than 10 Macabres... the things I do for you idiots. Love ya!

These things are fucking nightmares in EOU, but what else is new, I guess.

A nasty enemy, but the fact that they're limited to single target damage limits just how scary they can be. Which is to say not very as long as you can keep your momentum up. Multitarget damage, have you ever heard of it, EO1?

Let's try that again~

You're welcome!

A real pain if they kill your best defender turn 1, but easy enough to deal with otherwise.

Ah come on...

MURDER! Fuck yeah, ya cunts!

Getting into the spirits of things, I see.

Usually we'd go over these enemies, but we'll only encounter them from this floor on and we'll kill them almost immediately, so yeah, next update or whatever.

Let's just pretend we never saw that...

...shit, did they just see that?

Alright, here's a massive room full of invisible pits. Are you ready to do this with no online map? What are you, fucking crazy? Even I'm not doing that!!!

I'd say this is The Infamous Floor of EO1, but frankly, every floor of Claret Hollows is infamous.

The Lounge Where We Speak of Tomorrow

Man, that place seems like... the pits! Ahahaha- OW!

You know how much Cheese hates puns.

Yeah, cause I smacked you for making ant ones.

If you ask me, if he feels this way, he should forget the Tri-Colors and just tell her so. But you didn't ask me... and neither did he. Anyways, good luck finding three for him.

He should just ask me, I know all about exploring women.

Don't you mean... exploring... with...

No.

It's a strange one, though. This songstress was famous, but that was decades ago. And even if it's someone else singing... why would it be coming from the forest? So I want you to confirm whether or not this is true. And if you really do hear her song... use this to transmit it back to town. It's a Vox Stone I borrowed from the Radha. It transmits sound across great distances. I dunno how it works... it was supposedly found deep within the Labyrinth. Anyway... good luck.

Hmhm, quite the device indeed! If we had this back in the day, oh the billions we could've made~

You already had millions, sheesh.

Finding 150 unique items sounds tough, but just you watch--it'll happen before you know it. Good luck, and don't give up.

We already have past that... I hold my nose and record stuff even after everything that happened.

Sniff... I'm really proud of you.

See, like that.

Who's she talking to...? I picked a weird time for a midnight drink.

1 Ruby Bone is required for Ruby Gage (Ronin Gloves, DEF+10, AGI+9, TEC+7, must be restocked), sells for 65,000en

Uh, okay? The DEF value is nice, but AGI is shit like always, and TEC only matters for composite attacks and Ronin have a piss poor amount anyway. Also the most expensive glove for... some reason. No.

Oh, so that's why these things have AGI and TEC in EOU. Frankly, it makes even less sense in that game.

Some classes actually have ultimate armor that isn't just body armor, but it generally doesn't do too much for them in this game.

10 Hell Wings are required for Angel Helm (Medic Helmet, DEF+10, TP+30), sells for 54,000en

The final, and unique, helmet in the game. It's alright, I guess. The free Town Medal is definitely doing way more for Karin than this ever will, so that's why I'm not buying it!

I'm sure I'll have time later to divulge some tales. But hey, did you know the mitochondria-

Well I wouldn't mind being even more famous, hehehe.

Are you still here drooling over the Meteor Axe? It's been months, dear.

And that'll be it for regular town dialogue for the rest of the game. Oh no, what a tragedy.

What is a god to a non-believer?

Just take the compliment...

Welcome back, kids. My, my, did you find all this in the forest? It'd take days to look through it all. And this isn't even everything that's down there. Simply amazing... I wonder how many pages this will run to before your journey is over?

Filling it is honourable!

Well Ryu has to go through it afterwards to fix the spelling mistakes, the unintelligible writing and some of the drawings you did in... crayon?

Just try and stop me! Hah, that was actually pretty good... ahahahahahaAHAHAHAHAHA!

Man, he's laughing so passionately. Just warms my heart.

Man, he's laughing so passionately. Just sinks my heart.

I hate to say it, but it seems like a waste to just give these to our client. Oh, and while you were gone, I asked our client who he's trying to woo with this thing... It's a girl, good-looking if I remember right, who works at the flower shop in town. But I think I also remember that... well, she already has a lover. Pity, huh...? Even beautiful gems like this won't help our poor loverboy.

I remembered to fill in the map properly this time, but it is useful leaving as is so you remember where you need to go. This is important for later floors. ...I say, noticing a mistake in my map. I'm pretty sure I fix it later. Pretty sure. *opens up desmume*

1 Moschino is required for All Mist (Item, reduces damage from all elements by 75% for 5 turns, must be restocked), sells for 2000en

A buyable Lv 3 Immunize. It's way too late in the game for this to really matter.

This is... yeah, absolute garbage by the time you can get this. You need the Antielemental skills far more to deal with elemental damage.

10 Tri-Colors are required for Tourmaline (Accessory, DEF+6, Elemental Resist Up 20%, must be restocked), sells for 130,000en

Now this is a waste of money considering the Anti skills are basically a must for any elemental skill in the postgame. Still gonna buy the Adamas, one day.

Ah, now this is just heavenly~

Oh crap, the stone!

The wondrous tune continues to play from the half-rotted box. You wonder if the music is reaching Etria...

This box isn't here before, I'm pretty sure I checked, so how are you supposed to know this is here? *shrugs wildly*

Tile hunts! Engaging, aren't they?

The Vox Stone worked... I've never heard such a strange and wonderful tune in my life. I envy the people who were able to hear that woman's singing whenever they wanted...

Bird-Shaped Vane on the Roof

A little bonus for completing this mission, during the day, the regular town music is changed, while the old song can still be heard in the Inn and the Apothecary. It's definitely nice, but also a bit late in the game, especially behind a directionless quest.

The Cavern of True Red

I feel like this is beyond your master's powers.

Ah shut up and let's ignore this dumb floor.

There's no way in hell, heh, that I'm going through this shitty floor properly again. It's not difficult, it's tedium, and I can only put up with so much.

Gasp! Cheatsies! Dirty dirty cheatsies! Anyways yeah, you really do not have any shortcuts other than knowing which teleporters aren't a complete waste of space. You could try abusing Stalker to get through this Stratum more easily, but that doesn't lower the encounter rate enough to make your trip a picnic stroll. And it doesn't fix the fact that you know, you still have to walk all the way back to the damn stairs! And it still gets worse from here on out.

Instead we should fight some Shellords for tedium instead, yaaaaaaaay!

Man's not hot.

So here's the floor a lot of you have been waiting for. Basically, it's a million pits, way more than the 60 icon limit, that you need to follow various FOEs to avoid. Or you can say fuck that and use an online map, because aside from waiting a million years for turtles to get out of the way, how are you supposed to figure the path through aside from endless trial and error? Falling down to B28F isn't exactly quick and there's another aspect to this floor that makes it miserable, as we'll see next update.

Yeah hi, welcome to Pitfall hell! Every single one of these pitfalls are invisible, by the way! And Crosspeice was not kidding about there being too many for the icon limit! If you try to map out all the pitfalls, you will run out of icons before you are even halfway done with the map. (Guess who learned this the hard way?) As for how to deal with this monstrosity... well, the FOEs never step on the pits, except the draw distance in the DS EO games is really fucking shitty, and you can only see 2 tiles ahead at most, so you basically have to tail them the entire time. Which isn't a reliable solution as you'll see shortly. As for the actual solution? There technically is one, but it's implemented pretty terribly, and that's all I'll say on the matter for now.

Oooooooh, big boy! Largeants aren't too interesting, they're somewhat support enemies, with that same pathetic heal. But boosting every enemy's ATK is still pretty dangerous, so either get killing, or get shutting down. Of course, with Cheese, we'll be able to nullify it just fine, but that doesn't mean we won't be so lucky in future...

These things got completely reworked in EOU, and by that I mean they got a skill that'll probably go before non-priority skills that will kill pretty much everyone but Protectors and Landsknechts without heavy defensive support. It can also stun, on the off-chance someone lived.

It's still a normal enemy in EOU, by the way.

A... pure support enemy this late in the game? I... um... okay, game.

Sit down, be humble.

I feel like I should know some of these references...

A nice 80% base chance. We're nearly done with Cheese, so raw stats will be the ender, since she could use them.

All you really have to work with is your limited field of view to see where FOEs are. Though they aren't always helpful, as we see with this relatively isolated one.

There's also a few Songbirds on this floor patrolling around a massive block of pits. Though of course any pit surrounded on all sides by pits might as well be walls, since we'll never get to them. The map's not looking pretty, but it's the best we've got.

Man this bow is fine. I wanna keep it forever.

You'll get a month with it, max.

Bravery boosted Liana two shotting most enemies with Multishot has been helping a lot.

Why are these pits marked differently? Spoilers.

Agreed, I am quite stunning, ehehehe.

Here I thought she only did that while Lavin was around.

Some of these Shellords are only on narrow paths, so if you follow it the entire way, you'll get a nasty surprise when it suddenly turns around with no way to avoid it.

The aformentioned problem with tailing FOEs directly.

I think this is a way without pits. We'll find out in a sec.

Ooh, the tension is killing me~

Alright, I think we'll be doing plenty more weaving around to get to optional treasures, since this game likes making you go the most steps possible. It's gonna be a real chipping away situation.

1 Old Shell is required for Holy Aspis (Usable Ultimate Shield, DEF+32, Bind Resist Up 15%, must be restocked), sells for 64,000en

Hmm, it's alright, but it's only slightly better than the Halo Aspis, which is important for Smite. It's also not a great resistance against binds, but they're pretty uncommon now anyway, so it's whatever. It also pales in comparison to the final shield, but that one has a giant asterisk next to it. Since it's pretty expensive compared to the Halo Aspis, we probably won't bother.

Oh, and, uh, that's it for today! Next time, we've got two big ass rooms to chip through. Won't that be fun?

No.

Yes. Very yes!
